The illegitimate authorities in our Malvinas are so obsessed with building a new port in the Fuegian territory that they usurp, that they are willing to dismantle the only fresh horticultural commercial production complex on the islands, pride of the settled population.

The entire structure of the local private company Stanley Growers is located on land administered by the island government, and which was opportunely transferred for usufruct for the specific purpose of producing fresh vegetables, to the resident Tim Miller . Nurseries, seedbeds, countless seedlings and seven Polyester greenhouses with automatic regulation of light, air, temperature, irrigation and fertilizers, and everything built on that property, will be removed simply and simply, given that the mega port project foresees that an access road to the workshop will pass right through there. Despite the concern publicly expressed by Miller, who has not yet been told where he will have to install his production from scratch, added to the fact that the British population there will be left for several months without a supply of fresh legumes and vegetables, the Kelper government does not seem to be moved. and continues with its unilateral and untimely decision to undertake such a project, contrary to several UN provisions. From this horticultural industry, in the Malvinas, a good part of the population, and fishing boats and cruise ships in season, is supplied with legumes, vegetables and fresh tubers.

The company produces seedlings and seedlings and has open-air land prepared for years. Curiously, it is the local newspaper Penguin News that is drawing the attention of the irregular authorities to the conflictive situation that could “attack the public health of the Islanders by lack of fresh products.” The weekly sent a request for reports to the Commercial Services and Development office, mainly based on the fact that the land that they want to recover for auxiliary work for the construction of the port, in reality, has the sole purpose of plantations and harvests that are currently taking place. A spokesperson for the island government, not identified by Mercopress that disseminates it, reportedly said that it “ works hard to find mutually agreed upon solutions to the issues raised by Stanley Growers, while remaining firmly committed to the need to build the port.” A construction that, by the way, also aroused resistance on the part of the inhabitants, due to its onerous and unnecessary nature.

The same spokesperson explained that an access road to the factory “with the least impact for Stanley Growers” would be along the coast. But, he mentions other significant disruptions that would make it “particularly onerous.” So, it was decided as the most advantageous is the one that forces the dismantling of the horticultural company. The spokesperson assures that they work and plan so that the transfer and relocation causes the least possible damage to Stanley Growers , and that they are “exploring options” for such relocation.

The questioned construction company of the new port, BAM Nutall , in the environmental impact report assured that the effect of the works on the community would be minimal. It is not clear whether disrupting the availability of fresh produce for an entire population and sending one producer out of business would fall into the “minimal or insignificant” category.
