The British plan to sell 131 squid fishing licenses in the Malvinas this year

These are the estimates for 2022 of the colony established by the United Kingdom on the Argentine islands, which increasingly squeezes and puts pressure on the invaluable resource, pocketing million-dollar profits that represent 40% of its GDP.

The illegitimate British authorities that operate in the Fisheries Department of our Malvinas Islands, reported that so far they have issued 106 licenses to prey on our Ilex squid in favor of jiggers - and only one trawler - of different nationalities, mainly Spanish.

Andrea Clausen , a kind of life director of Natural Resources of the usurped archipelago, announced the figure to the local press this week, adding that she has effectively delivered 73 licenses and another 33 are pending for different reasons. Not satisfied with what has been done, the Occupation officials are excited about being able to sell another 25 predatory licenses in the coming weeks to as many vessels that will also go for Illex squid mainly to the north of the islands, as is usual at the beginning of each harvest. “For now there have been reasonable catch volumes, but in any case it is too early to anticipate the evolution of the harvest,” boasted the British official Clausen. However, she mentions a weekly report on the distribution that records, between the 2nd and on February 8, no record of squid capture. Yes, instead of 24 tons of toothfish, which contribute to a cumulative 41 tons of that species. The illegitimate fishing that the kelpers manage through licenses, generates profits for them about £13 million (more than USD 17,600,000) each season, which represents 40% of GDP related to fishing activity.

The growing voracity of the settlers has its continuity in a call to buy licenses for next year, already under the new system called individual transferable quotas B.This new modality is for 25 years and will take effect from January 1, 2023.
