The national government announced the reactivation of Voluntary Military Service for young people between the ages of 18 and 28 throughout the country . The news was announced publicly by spokesperson Manuel Adorni at a press conference.
Last December, Ministers Patricia Bullrich and Sandra Pettovello had already announced the plan to promote youth participation in civic and military activities.
The same policy had already been implemented in 2019 during Bullrich's administration in Mauricio Macri's government . It was explained at the time as an attempt to get young people off the streets and away from crime and drugs , given that the program was aimed at people under 24 who were neither studying nor working .
Adorni explained that “ this Voluntary Military Service will offer the opportunity to learn specific trades such as cooking, mechanical workshops, or security duties that will help them serve in the future and with dignity when they complete their mission .”
The plan also includes a profile assessment to guide participants toward employment or educational opportunities upon completion of the experience. It also includes a financial compensation.
The first stage was planned in cities such as Campo de Mayo, Bariloche, Santiago del Estero, Jesús María, Rosario and Misiones , with potential expansion to other parts of the country.
