What for decades was a symbol of resistance and remembrance under a canvas structure is beginning to transform into a definitive architectural landmark . This February, the Municipality of Río Grande formally began construction on the new building that will replace the historic Tent of Dignity , located at the intersection of the Atlantic coast and Sebastián El Cano Avenue.

The start of the work is visible with the erection of the paraboloidal columns , central structures that will support the new space. This design is not accidental: it was developed by the Secretariat of Planning, Investment, and Public Services in conjunction with the "Malvinas Argentinas" Veterans Center of Río Grande , seeking to preserve the visual essence and mystique of the traditional tent that, since 1985, has brought the town together every dawn of April 2nd.
A space for the whole year
Unlike the temporary structure, this new building of approximately 800 square meters will allow the Malvinas Cause to extend beyond the week of the Vigil. The project includes:
The legacy of the National Capital of Vigil
In 2013, the National Congress passed Law 26,846 , declaring Río Grande the National Capital of the Vigil . Therefore, the need for a space that can withstand the harsh climate of Tierra del Fuego and allow for a stronger defense of sovereignty has been a constant demand.
For veterans and the public, the start of this project represents the definitive institutionalization of a shared sentiment. The new building will not only house the vigil held every April, but will also serve as a beacon for disseminating information about Argentine sovereignty in the South Atlantic, Antarctica, and our Malvinas Islands.
With the progress of the works in this first quarter of 2026, Río Grande is preparing so that, in the near future, the commitment to memory will have a firm roof that protects the sacred fire of the Malvinas Cause.
