Recently, the UK Ministry of Defence awarded a contract to the telecommunications company Sure South Atlantic to provide Wi-Fi to British military personnel in the Malvinas.
Valued at around £3.7m, the internet provider plans to base itself in Stanley under the name “Malvina Islands Wi-Fi”.
In this way, the United Kingdom plans to provide this specific service to the occupying military personnel deployed in the Malvinas.
The project seeks to provide connectivity and secure Internet for personal use to each of the soldiers illegally deployed in Argentine territory, in the Monte Agradable (“Mount Pleasant”) complexes and other locations.
Published in late October this year, the contract was awarded under CPV code 72411000 and specifically for the provision of internet services. According to the British, Sure South Atlantic services are expected to “support [UK] Ministry of Defence personnel.”
The central aim is to “improve online accessibility, allowing them to stay in touch with family and friends while they are posted remotely.” For the moment, the contract initially proposed covers a considerable period of service for the Britons, including two optional one-year extensions subject to price adjustments.
