The Institute of Studies on the Malvinas, South Atlantic and Antarctica of the Rosario Bar Association , in conjunction with the Malvinas, South Atlantic and Antarctica Observatory of the National University of Rosario (UNR), will carry out the training cycle “ Malvinas: history, law and sovereignty in the South Atlantic” , an academic proposal aimed at analyzing the main historical, legal and diplomatic arguments that structure the international debate on Argentine sovereignty around the Malvinas Question.

The series will consist of five virtual meetings, held between May and September 2026 via the Zoom platform, and will feature the participation of specialists in international law, history, and international politics. The event will conclude with a special in-person lecture by diplomat and former Argentine Deputy Foreign Minister Juan Archibaldo Lanús , intended to reflect on the contemporary challenges of the Malvinas Question in the international system and in Argentine foreign policy.
The program will begin on Wednesday, May 27, with the session “Historical Titles of Sovereignty,” led by Cecilia Miguel . The second session will take place on Wednesday, June 24, and will address “The British Usurpation of 1833 and its Legal Assessment,” presented by Juan Facundo Besson. The third session, “Prescription, Effectiveness, and Diplomatic Protest,” will be held on Thursday, July 30, led by Sebastián Melano. The fourth session will take place on Wednesday, August 26, under the title “ Self-Determination and Territorial Integrity in the Decolonization Process,” presented by María Salomón. Finally, the fifth session, “Analysis of the Remaining Subantarctic Island Territories and the Corresponding Maritime Spaces,” will be held on Wednesday, September 30, led by Fernando Leva.
The in-person closing conference will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2026, at 7:00 p.m. in the Auditorium of the Rosario Bar Association (COLABRO). The presentation will be given by Juan Archibaldo Lanús , with introduction and moderation by Juan Facundo Besson and opening remarks by Martín Ayerbe .
The cycle also has the support of the Institute of Public Law and Political Science of the Rosario Bar Association and the Chair A of Public International Law of the National University of Rosario.
