The hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship shows how Ushuaia collaborates with the usurpers of the Malvina Islands.

A health outbreak on the MV Hondius, which departed from Ushuaia, exposes, once again, that tourism and logistics in Tierra del Fuego are part of the driving force of the British colony's economy.

Tourism represents the second largest economic sector in the colony, generating revenues of US$20 million annually.

On October 1, 2025 , invoking Law No. 653 on Access to Public Information , this media outlet submitted a formal request to the Provincial Directorate of Ports (DPP). The objective was—and remains—to ensure transparency regarding maritime activity (passengers and cargo) that directly links Ushuaia with the Malvina Islands, South Georgia, and the South Sandwich Islands since 2011.

Despite repeated requests, the president of the DPP, Roberto Murcia , has not provided any response. This institutional silence not only violates the constitutional right to information, but also conceals a reality that official rhetoric prefers to ignore: the port of Ushuaia functions, in practice, as an essential cog in the financial machine for sustaining the British occupation .

The virus that exposed the route

What provincial bureaucracy tries to conceal through silence, international events starkly reveal. Recently, the World Health Organization (WHO) confirmed three deaths from hantavirus aboard the polar cruise ship MV Hondius .

Beyond the health tragedy, the ship's itinerary is a telling admission . The cruise ship departed from Ushuaia on March 20 and made stops in the Malvina Islands and South Georgia before heading towards Africa. This health crisis not only confirms the "normality" with which these triangular routes operate, but also highlights how the infrastructure and services of Ushuaia are used to facilitate the flow of tourists to the colonial enclave.

Tourism as a source of sustenance for the invader

The scale of the business facilitated from Argentina is alarming . Tourism represents the second largest economic sector in the colony, generating approximately US$20 million in annual revenue. Last season, nearly 75,000 cruise passengers arrived in the islands; a record that would be impossible to achieve without the logistics and hub status offered by the port of Ushuaia.

This systematic practice violates the spirit of Provincial Law No. 852 "Gaucho Rivero" . Although local authorities, such as Secretary Andrés Dachary, have publicly acknowledged that "dozens of cruise ships depart from Ushuaia for the islands" , no measures have been taken to restrict a connectivity that strengthens the United Kingdom's economic position in the South Atlantic.

The tourism outbreak

The outbreak on the MV Hondius is an epidemiological trigger that reveals the full extent of a situation where sovereignty is disregarded by the provincial government itself. As long as the Port Authority continues to violate the law by withholding information on ship and passenger traffic, it will remain complicit in a system that prioritizes port revenue over the constitutional mandate of Transitory Provision One.

The question for Gustavo Melella's government is this: How long will the port of the Malvina Islands' capital continue to be the main logistical support for those who usurp our territory? Silence is not an answer; it is a stance.
