The Argentine government has downplayed the possibility of an official trip by President Javier Milei to the United Kingdom in the coming months and decided to focus its foreign policy agenda on the United States and on political coordination with right-wing administrations in the region. Sources at the Casa Rosada (Balcarce 50) indicated that the visit to London "is not on the agenda," that there is no tentative date, and that the original plan never materialized into a formal presidential commitment.

While the government acknowledged preliminary efforts to organize an investment attraction event—in the form of Argentina Week in the British capital—the initiative did not reach the necessary stage of development. Unlike the British event, the Argentina Week in Paris continues along its advanced organizational schedule as part of the effort to attract European investment.

The focus on Washington and regional arming

The redefinition of priorities places the United States at the center of the President's upcoming international trips. The official schedule includes two major stops before the end of the year:

·         Washington (October 14): Participation in activities related to Hispanic Heritage Month, in the lead-up to the U.S. legislative elections.

·         Miami (December 14 and 15): Attendance at the G20 leaders' summit convened by the Donald Trump administration.

This scheme is complemented by the intention to consolidate a bloc of South American leaders ideologically aligned with the White House, following Milei's recent visits to Brazil, Peru, Ecuador and Colombia, in addition to the planned regional conservative meeting in Buenos Aires.

The bilateral scenario with London and the internal debate

The Casa Rosada (the Argentine presidential palace) denied that the postponement of the trip to Great Britain was linked to the recent controversies surrounding the Malvina Islands issue or to the repercussions of the Security Minister's statements regarding the entry of flags alluding to the Malvinas into stadiums. Domestically, the ruling party acknowledged that the failed attempt to reform the Land Law would carry greater political costs than the debates surrounding the foreign policy agenda.

Although the presidential tour has been suspended, bilateral channels with the United Kingdom remain active at the technical level. Ongoing discussions include Argentina's interest in easing current restrictions on the purchase of defense equipment with British components, while the demand for the resumption of sovereignty negotiations in the South Atlantic is formally being pursued through its own diplomatic channels.
