They monitor black carbon particles in the atmosphere of Antarctica

Smaller than the size of a final grain of salt, these particles originate from the burning of fossil fuels in transportation or industry; in the burning of biomass, mainly that used for cooking and heating homes and for forest fires.

Researchers from the National Meteorological Service (SMN) installed an instrument at the Marambio base to monitor the concentration of carbon particles in the atmosphere, whose presence contributes to the acceleration of the melting of both poles of the planet, to evaluate its impact on the climate and people's health.
