The Argentine Antarctic Robotic Observatory , located at the Belgrano II Base , the southernmost of the Argentine Antarctic bases, completed the installation of its automated dome, from where the polar night will be used to study exoplanets and other celestial bodies, which are difficult to access. from other latitudes. The tasks were carried out during the visit to that base of the Almirante Irízar icebreaker, which every summer takes advantage of a climatic window between the second half of January and the first half of February that allows it to navigate a channel that opens between the ice barrier and the frozen sea to approach up to about 15 miles from the site. There it stops on the ice and completes the supply and replacement of personnel through helicopters.

Engineers, technicians from the National Antarctic Directorate (DNA) and members of the Joint Antarctic Command (Cocoantar) of the Armed Forces participated in the installation. The Belgrano II Base staff has 11 members from the Army, 2 from the Navy, 1 from the Air Force, one from the National Antarctic Directorate and two from the National Meteorological Service. Andrés Millanovich , mechanical engineer and professor at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Buenos Aires (FIUBA), traveled to Belgrano II as responsible for the assembly and commissioning of the observatory dome together with engineering student Alejo Adbud . In that This task had the collaboration of DNA personnel and members of the Joint Antarctic Command. Millanovich stated in dialogue with Télam that "we boarded the icebreaker on December 28 for the quarantine prior to the trip due to the pandemic, we arrived at Belgrano II on February 3 at 3 in the morning and to complete the assembly we had four days of work of 18 hours to make the most of the time the ship used to resupply the base.

The weather during those days was cloudy and one day it snowed, which played in favor of the team that had more time at the base to complete the tasks. "Throughout the year the Belgrano II staff will carry out operational tests and visual checks, and if everything goes well next summer the telescope will be taken to be installed," he said. Millanovich , who traveled to Belgrano II for the first time in the summer of 2020 to place the platform, told what it means to travel to the white continent."All trips to Antarctica are different and it is an imposing place that cannot be described in words and where the photos are too small to represent the immensity: In addition, being above the Irízar gives you the peace of mind that you are going to reach your destination" , he expressed.
