With the completion of the structural assembly of Module II , the Petrel Joint Antarctic Base takes an important step toward its complete reactivation. Tandanor has successfully completed the assembly of this new unit , which includes another 300 square meters and which, together with Module I under construction , will form an essential complex for Argentine operations on the white continent .
Located on the northeast coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, Petrel Base stands as a key point for the logistical and scientific activities that Argentina carries out in the region.
With Module I under construction , which will add 400 square meters to the existing infrastructure , the facility's operational and research capacity is expected to be significantly strengthened.
The technical supervision carried out by the shipyard, in coordination with the Directorate of Engineers and Infrastructure of the Argentine Army and the Joint Antarctic Command (COCOANTAR) , seeks to ensure that the works are carried out under optimal standards of quality and efficiency.
Furthermore, Petrel Base is destined to play an important role in Argentine logistics operations in Antarctica, an area where the national presence has gained importance in recent years, especially given the disputes over sovereignty and rights to natural resources in the region.
" The work carried out by Tandanor is a clear example of how we can use our resources and capabilities to reaffirm our sovereignty ," said a Defense Ministry spokesman.
These types of initiatives are relevant in terms of Argentina 's sovereignty and projection in the international context , especially considering the historical claims to the Malvinas Islands and Antarctica .
