The purchase of helicopters for the Argentine Navy was authorized, and everything indicates that the chosen model is the AW109M from the Leonardo company.
Decree 594/2024, which was recently announced, modifies a part of the public administration budget to finance the acquisition of these light helicopters.
It is planned to replace the AS-555 Fennec of the First Aeronaval Helicopter Squadron of the Argentine Navy with these new AW109M, which are expected to operate from the new OPVs and be integrated into the Sea Fleet.
Although no specific details have been revealed in this regard, it was learned that the Argentine Navy plans to acquire 8 AW109M helicopters from Leonardo . Some of these helicopters will be equipped with OTHT (Over The Horizon Targeting) capabilities, while others will be used for search and rescue operations.
