The British Embassy in Argentina has announced the finalists of the "Getting to Know Our Malvina Neighbors" competition, an initiative that, far from being a simple cultural exchange, constitutes a blatant provocation and an act of colonial propaganda on Argentine soil.
This action, which invites young university students to visit the islands with all expenses covered, is part of a "soft power" offensive that seeks to erode Argentina's claim of sovereignty over the Malvina Islands and normalize a situation of illegal occupation.
The contest, organized by the self-proclaimed " Malvina Islands Government" and British embassies in the region, asks participants to answer in a video why they would like to "meet their neighbors in the Malvina Islands." By using this name and referring to the inhabitants as "neighbors," Britain attempts to legitimize its control over the archipelago and obscure its status as a usurper.

The controversy isn't new. This is the sixth edition of the contest, and once again, its main objective is to recruit young people to become propagandists of British fiction .
Winners must be active on social media and share their experiences, becoming vehicles for a de-Malvinization campaign that seeks to undermine support for the sovereignty claim in their own country.
The worrying official silence
In the face of this offensive, the response of the Argentine authorities has been, for the most part, worryingly silent . Unlike in previous years, when the Foreign Ministry expressed a "categorical rejection" of the event, this time there have been no strong statements from the national government.
This lack of official response is alarming, as it validates the British strategy by omission and allows this colonial action to develop without the expected opposition.
This silence stands in stark contrast to the stance of other actors. The Tierra del Fuego government and the National University of Tierra del Fuego (UNTDF) have been the first to speak out. Through a formal note, they requested that the National Interuniversity Council (CIN) reject the competition and discourage student participation, reaffirming their commitment to defending sovereignty. Similarly, Mercosur parliamentarians have promoted a declaration to repudiate the contest, calling it an attempt at "cultural and political manipulation."
The lack of a unified and forceful response from the Argentine State is a factor that weakens the claim to sovereignty. Allowing the British Embassy to carry out this type of action on our own soil, with the tacit consent of government and academic bodies, is an act of grave negligence that goes against the Malvinas cause and the memory of those who fought for them.
The dispute over the Malvinas Islands is not only being fought in international forums and history books, but also on a symbolic level . Every action that seeks to normalize the British occupation must be denounced and firmly confronted. The British Embassy's involvement is not an innocent exchange; it is an affront to our sovereignty. It is imperative that the Argentine authorities break their silence and vehemently defend what belongs to all Argentines.
The finalists of the shame contest
The British Embassy has announced the names of the 10 finalists in the competition, from various Argentine universities. The list clearly reflects the penetration of this initiative in the national academic sphere, a fact that should set off alarm bells in the education sector and among national authorities :
The participation of students from these institutions, some of which have a long tradition in Argentine higher education, underscores the urgent need for a clear response from their administrations and, especially, from the National Interuniversity Council. The absence of an explicit official rejection by these institutions and the Argentine Foreign Ministry is undoubtedly a factor contributing to the legitimization of this colonialist strategy.
