The US begins to take control of the Argentine basin of the Paraná and Paraguay rivers

The Commander of the Naval River Area (ANFL) and Head of the Zárate Naval Base, Rear Admiral Daniel Francisco Finardi , received a visit from an American delegation in charge of the Commander, Special Operations South, United States of America, Rear Admiral Mark A. Schafer .

The information was published on Tuesday 27 by Gaceta Marinera, the official press outlet of the Argentine Navy, without providing a single piece of information regarding the date of the visit, nor the length of stay of the American soldiers in the country.

According to Gaceta Marinera; "the delegation began the day with a presentation by the Heads of Operations of the ANFL and the Marine Infantry Battalion No. 3 "Alte. Eleazar Videla" (BIM3), who addressed the functions and tasks carried out in this naval zone and its subordinate units."

 

The foreign military personnel sailed along the Paraná, learned about the functions and tasks that the Argentine Navy performs in this naval zone and its subordinate units; and discussed future activities.

 

After that , “the delegation went to the BIM3 to tour the facilities and learn about the material and means they have, and then sail through the waters of the Paraná River aboard the Guardian 22 boats, belonging to the Compañía de Embarcaciones Menores.” And it ended “with a meeting between Rear Admiral Schafer and Rear Admiral Finardi, where They discussed future activities and exchanged gifts.”
