As part of the winter training carried out throughout the month of July, members of the Marine Infantry Battalions (BIM) No. 4 and No. 5, dependent on the Southern Marine Infantry Force of the Argentine Navy, trained in techniques winters in low mountains and southern mountains in the valleys of the Fuegian capital.
The maneuvers, which also included the Sailors Second Volunteer Troop recently incorporated by the BIM5, They began on the Martial glacier, where they carried out ropeway movements and self-arrest techniques using snowshoes and crampons, which allowed them to move safely along slopes covered in snow and ice.
During this stage of the instruction, the staff had to execute various survival techniques, which included the construction of igloos and snow caves where they could spend the night in extreme weather conditions.
Next, at the Cerro Castor Winter Center facilities, they complemented their training by incorporating basic and advanced techniques of Andean skiing, a key means of movement in operational activities that the amphibious combatant uses in snowy mountainous terrain. It should be noted that this type of intensive training, characteristic of the southern region of the country, is of utmost importance for the safe and effective execution of complex operations in adverse weather conditions.
