The second ordinary session of the Tierra del Fuego Legislature passed a resolution early this morning that is shaking up the provincial political landscape. At the initiative of legislator Pablo Villegas (MPF) and with the unanimous vote of all 15 members of parliament, the creation of an Investigative Commission was formalized. This commission will seek to determine provincial responsibility for the establishment of the company LeoLabs Argentina SRL and the installation of a military radar on the "El Relincho" ranch.
A real control structure
Unlike other technical commissions, this new investigative unit has three characteristics that guarantee its independence and ethical weight: 1) it will be made up of a representative from each of the political blocs in the chamber; 2) it will be chaired by the opposition, ensuring that there are no obstacles to investigating the chain of command of the provincial Executive; 3) it will be made up of a representative from the Malvinas Ex-Combatants Center in Ushuaia and a representative from the Malvinas Argentinas War Veterans Center of Río Grande .
The Veterans: The Engine of Truth
The inclusion of war veterans is not accidental. For almost three years, they have been the ones who, with the greatest vehemence and consistency, have denounced this radar project, funded by British and Irish capital, as a flagrant violation of national security and the defense of the Republic.
Their participation will ensure that the investigation does not get lost in bureaucratic labyrinths, but maintains the National Defense focus that Judge González already indicated in his recent ruling on corporate nullity.
The Commission's mission is to dismantle the "cover-up network" that enabled the operation of a dual-purpose (civilian and military) system in a key geostrategic area. The investigation will focus on:
1. How the provincial IGJ allowed the registration of a firm with such foreign military ties.
2. Why were early warnings about the radar's functionality ignored by the UK and the US ?
3. Who were the administrative officials responsible for facilitating the flow of data through the provincial infrastructure?
The closing of the circle
This legislative development comes in addition to the demolition process underway in the Superior Court of Justice and the ruling that annulled the company's operations. With veterans now involved in the investigation, the LeoLabs radar project has ceased to be merely an administrative issue and has become a matter of provincial and national pride.
The truth about who opened the doors to espionage technology in Tierra del Fuego is finally about to come to light.
