Through a personal presentation made minutes before 3 p.m. this Friday and at the entrance table of the State Prosecutor's Office of Tierra del Fuego in Ushuaia, National Senator Pablo Daniel Blanco asked the lawyer to “arrange the pertinent investigation of the administrative conduct of the officials and agents involved and who took part in the process (by action or omission) and consequent control of the legality of the activity of the State and its officials around the installation of the radar for the alleged search and tracking of space debris by the company multinational Leolabs on Route 3 km.2946 Tolhuin, in an administrative item that would date back to at least 2021.”
The request of the Fuegian senator to the prosecutor Virgilio Martínez de Sucre, is made in the midst of strong accusations between the governor of Tierra del Fuego, Gustavo Melella ; with Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero and Minister of Defense Jorge Taiana.
Melella blames both officials of the national cabinet, and also the Head of the Cabinet of Ministers; to “delay” a decision to deactivate and disarm the radar of Irish and English capitals; which, according to him, correspond to those ministerial portfolios and not to the provincial government.
For his part, Cafiero accused the Melella management of having “exceeded” its powers. And the Undersecretary of Telecommunications and Connectivity of the Chief of Staff, Mariano Lombardi ; that the “competence” to disable the radar belongs to the Fuegian government, for having previously authorized and granted the precarious permits granted by that Undersecretariat; the corporate registration of LeoLabs in the General Inspection of Justice and in the Ministry of the Environment, and given the electrical service through the Provincial Directorate of Energy.
The Senator's request to the offices of the official defender of the interests of the Fuegian State was made 48 hours after the presence of Chancellor Santiago Cafiero , before the members of the Foreign Relations Commission of the upper house, to report - among others topics-; about the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs so that a British radar is installed and operating today in the heart of the Big Island of Tierra del Fuego. An issue of which Pablo Blanco was the petitioner.
In the letter to the State Attorney; Blanco lists and presents as evidence for legal analysis; a total of 13 administrative acts, facts, notes, reports and presentations carried out through departments of the Province and the Nation, from March 4, 2022 to date; including the statements of Chancellor Cafiero in the Senator on Wednesday the 27th.
In his petition, the Senator of the Nation requested Virgilio Martínez de Sucre ; that: “Due to the facts and background presented, and taking into consideration even the negative and/or harmful consequences that this facility could cause or have already caused in terms of national security and defense, in accordance with the objectives of the claim in the international forums of our sovereignty over the Malvinas and direct access to Antarctica as a geopolitical objective, as well as in economic terms in the face of the eventual patrimonial claim that the province may have to face by the company, (...) the pertinent investigation of the administrative conduct of the officials and agents involved and who took part in the process (by action or omission) and consequent control of the legality of the activity of the State and its officials regarding the installation of the referred radar, the delimitation of responsibilities and, if applicable, the corresponding complaints are formulated due to the investigation carried out.”
