The commission investigating the installation of the British radar in Tierra del Fuego travels to Buenos Aires to take testimonies.

Former officials from Alberto Fernández's presidential administration will testify, including former Defense Minister Jorge Taiana and former Chief of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Juan Martín Paleo.

The testimonials are scheduled for Friday, September 18th and Monday, September 21st.

In a key meeting held this Tuesday, the 8th, at noon in the committee room of the Tierra del Fuego Legislature, the members of the Special Investigating Committee adopted fundamental decisions to ensure the course of the proceedings regarding the LeoLabs radar: they resolved to extend its formal operating period until December 15, 2026 , and ratified the institutional decision to travel to the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires next week to carry out a series of crucial in-person inquiries.

The extension directly addresses the claim brought by the Malvinas War Veterans Center in Ushuaia (CEMU) and the procedural need to process the pending documentary evidence. This additional time will allow not only for the completion of the scheduled depositions in Buenos Aires, but also for reiterating the formal requests for documentation still withheld by areas of the Provincial Executive Branch and immediately opening the round of testimonies for all Tierra del Fuego officials who were directly or indirectly involved in the administrative process of establishing LeoLabs Argentina SRL and its British and Irish parent companies, culminating in the summons of Governor Gustavo Melella himself.

Confirmed schedule in Buenos Aires: Taiana and Paleo open the declarations

The parliamentary body confirmed the dates on which it will take in-person statements in Buenos Aires from the highest authorities in the area of national defense of the government of Alberto Fernández, signatories of the alerts that determined the suspension and order of cancellation of the antenna field for violating strategic security:

Both testimonies will allow us to unravel the technical background of the report of August 1, 2023, the warnings about the dual military use of the NIDAS panels and the communications circuit maintained with the national ministries and the Fuegian government.

Gustavo López and Mariano Lombardi will be summoned

During the same committee session, the summons for testimony from two other key former officials of the Alberto Fernández administration, directly linked to the authorizations and oversight of the radio spectrum, was debated and formally approved:

1.     Dr. Gustavo López: Former head of the National Communications Agency ( ENACOM ) and national president of the FORJA party—the political group led in the province by Governor Gustavo Melella. His summons seeks to clarify the regulatory body's role in monitoring the spectrum and the links between the party and the process.

2.     Mariano Lombardi: Former Undersecretary of Telecommunications and Connectivity of the Chief of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Nation, area that issued in 2022 Provision No. 8/22 granting the precarious authorization of frequencies in favor of LeoLabs.

The focus is on the provincial structure

With the extension of the legislative mandate until mid-December, the Investigating Commission seeks to overcome the delays in the delivery of files by the Chief of Staff and provincial ministries.

The approved work plan establishes that, after the return of the delegation from Buenos Aires, progress will be made without delay in the mandatory appearance of ministers, secretaries and line directors of the Fuegian administration who validated environmental feasibility studies, registrations in the General Inspectorate of Justice and the provision of electrical infrastructure for the operation of the antennas in the "El Relincho" Ranch.
