In 2017, the French chancellor allegedly blackmailed his Argentine counterpart into agreeing to buy five Super Etendard aircraft as scrap, under penalty of withdrawing his support for Argentina's integration into an International Trade Organization dominated by France.

A wiretap of Macri's former Finance Minister known in recent days certifies what was already an open secret: They bought planes that are useless, that don't fly, and they knew it.
The €12.5 million joke carries the signature of Aguad and Marcos Peña, and the blessing of Dujovne and Macri. An article published by the ADN news portal gives an account of the fabulous negotiation in which the highest former officials of the Macrista government are involved. Under strong pressure, they bought from France five useless Super Etendard aircraft, which did not fly, and which they knew did not fly and could not fly. The affair finds its origin on March 10, 2017, when Argentine and French defense authorities agree on a
“Technical Arrangement” related to the
“ Transfer of Modernized Super Etendard aircraft in favor of the Argentine Navy." Without so much euphemism, France sells Argentina five old used war planes, retired from its National Navy, along with
"technical monitoring documentation, spare parts, banks of test, test bags, mission equipment, tools, simulator…”
The deal closes on December 18, 2017 for a total sum of €12.5 million. Until then, everything is normal, like any transaction that can be made between two interested states, one in selling, the other in buying. Except for one detail which is not even hidden, but very visible in the letter of the agreement itself.France sold non-working planes for scrap.
