A video of Israeli DJ Shai Avitan , known on social media as Afro Shai, sparked controversy after he appeared performing an electronic music show at Laguna de los Témpanos , in Tierra del Fuego .
This emblematic natural landscape , protected by environmental regulations , prohibits the use of speakers to safeguard its flora , fauna and the tranquility of those seeking rest in nature .
The publication of the video coincided with a critical moment in Patagonia , where residents and firefighters are tirelessly fighting forest fires .
In the clip, Avitan shows a scene accompanied by a group of dancers and although the DJ is known for recording his sets in different natural spaces around the world, this time the choice of the place and the context generated strong rejection .
The post, replicated by the Ushuaia Lovers Tourism Page , generated hundreds of negative comments , expressing the indignation of many. “ They have no respect for nature ”, “ this causes irreparable damage to wildlife ” and “ it's called noise pollution, and it affects wildlife ”, were some of the reactions of users on social networks.
Faced with the wave of criticism , Avitan tried to soften the situation by apologizing on his Instagram stories . He assured that his intention was not to harm the site , explaining that he was "simply recording a set" and that a group of people joined in to dance.
“ I didn’t have a big sound system, just a small speaker that I travel with ,” he argued. He claimed that he loves Argentina and respects nature, insisting that he always takes care of the environment.
“ I am a DJ who just wants to make people happy and fill their hearts with joy. I have no bad intentions ,” he concluded.
