Ushuaia opens a cycle of awareness and training on the Malvinas Question

The municipality of Ushuaia is launching a cultural, academic and Malvinas training cycle from Tuesday 6th to Wednesday 20th November. It will open spaces for debate, exchange and reflection, and a massive training for all municipal staff on the “Malvinas Question”.

With the slogan “We Make Sovereignty”, the Municipality of Ushuaia will carry out from November 6 to 20, a cultural, academic and training cycle; with the main objective of generating a open space for debate, exchange and reflection on the “Malvinas Question”.

All activities will focus on reinforcing and making known Argentina's sovereign rights over the island and maritime territories usurped by Great Britain, the struggle waged by the Nation in the search for their recovery and the importance of the city as the legitimate capital of the Malvinas.

Its launch will take place this Wednesday 6th at 11 in the morning, at the headquarters of the Historical Museum “Espacio Pensar Malvinas” , on Avenida Maipú and 12 de Octubre, coinciding with the 204th anniversary of the first raising of the Argentine flag in the Islands ; ending on Wednesday 20th.

The main activity will take place on Tuesday, November 19th at the “Cochocho Vargas” gymnasium, starting with the launch of the permanent, continuous and mandatory Training Plan on the “Malvinas Question” for all employees and officials of the municipality; in compliance with the provisions of National Law No. 27,671, Provincial Law No. 1522 and Municipal Ordinance No. 6326.

The opening will be carried out by Mayor Walter Vuoto , and will bring together prominent professionals, experts and personalities.

All the scheduled activities and the 1st Municipal Seminar “Thinking about the Malvinas. Building sovereignty” aim to keep alive the memory of the history of the Islands, Argentine sovereignty over them and the heroic deeds of our war veteran heroes and the authentic and permanent claim to our unredeemed Malvinas territory.

"The Municipality of Ushuaia, capital of the Malvinas Islands, maintains the irrevocable and peaceful claim of our legitimate sovereignty, and in defense of national, provincial and municipal interests, and as a State policy assumes the commitment to raise awareness, train and educate municipal employees in everything related to the Malvinas Question," said the administration of Mayor Vuoto through a publication for the press.

There will be photo exhibitions, tours of the allusive murals in the city, the inauguration of the exhibition “Zamba knows Malvinas”, the “Film cycle for Malvinas”, “Theater for Malvinas”, and the “Exploring Malvinas” Exhibition aimed at secondary school students on court 4 of the Augusto Lasserre Sports Center and on November 19 the opening of the aforementioned academic seminar.

The training cycle will address the historical and legal aspects of the Malvinas Question, from the 15th century to the first national governments of the United Provinces of the Río de la Plata; the claims of Argentina from 1833 to the incorporation of the Malvinas Question in the creation of the United Nations in 1945 and the period 1960 - 1965 with Resolution 1514 of the United Nations General Assembly, "Alegato Ruda" and Resolution 2065, with the presentations of Lic. Clara Vernet,  Mr. José Luis Vernet and Lic. Lucio Verdoia.

“Foreign policy, geopolitics and natural resources” will also be discussed with contributions from Dr. Vet. César Larena (virtually), Mgtr. Eng. Mayra Padin, Abg.Prof. Pablo Wehbe,  Lic. Julian Kelly;  “Malvinas: Identity Configurations” will allow us to analyze the Malvinas issue in the construction of national identity, as a social and cultural expression.

It will also cover recent history, addressing the issue of "Malvinas from Ushuaia", "Women and Malvinas" with the speakers Lic. Susana Pereyra, Prof. Mgtr. Karin Otero, Ex Cbt. Mlv. Mariana Soneira, Lic.Mgtr. Gabriela Naso and a discussion towards the closing of the training, with the promotion and dissemination of the Diploma in Malvinas, Antarctica and the islands of the South Atlantic.

All activities are supported by the National Technological University, the National University of Tierra del Fuego AeIAS, CENT N°11, IPES, the Malvinas Veterans' Centre of Ushuaia, Sons and Heirs of the Malvinas Cause and the Legislative Branch of the province of Tierra del Fuego.
