The Battle of Vuelta de Obligado: A Foundational Lesson in Sovereignty
The commemoration pays tribute to the Battle of Vuelta de Obligado on November 20, 1845 , where the Argentine Confederation , under the command of Juan Manuel de Rosas , faced the fleets of Great Britain and France, which sought to impose by force the free navigation of the Paraná River and violate national sovereignty.
That day, General Lucio Mansilla led a bold strategy in the narrow bend of the Paraná: stretching three thick chains across the river, supported by barges, to physically stop the warships, while from the bluffs, cannons and soldiers fought and resisted for hours.

Although the chains were cut and there were many Argentine casualties, the resistance was a resounding political and moral success . It demonstrated to the world the young nation's unwavering will to defend its territory, leading years later to both powers recognizing Argentine sovereignty over its internal waters.
"The Battle of Vuelta de Obligado is not just a date; it is the foundational lesson that the Homeland is sovereign and that the courage of its people can overcome the arrogance of any empire," the organizers point out.
This virtual meeting is considered a key event to honor the historical and contemporary value of the defense of the Homeland, reaffirming the Nation's firmness in the defense of its territory against all aggression, from 1845 to the present in the Malvinas Cause.
