According to the recent Report No. 142 of the Chief of Staff, presented to the Chamber of Deputies of the National Congress , the Argentine Air Force (FAA) plans to operate the aircraft in Santa Cruz and probably Río Grande .
The FAA plans to deploy the aircraft to other locations in the country , in addition to the 6th Tandil Air Brigade in the province of Buenos Aires . The focus would be on the south , since the presentation to the Lower House of the National Parliament indicated that " the SARm F-16 will be deployed outside its home Brigade to airports that are compatible with its operation for the control of the airspace under its jurisdiction." They added that "with respect to the works, the repaving of the Río Gallegos runway is planned ."
Although the report does not explicitly detail the arrival of these aircraft to the 10th Air Brigade in Río Gallegos - which is considered a strategic point due to its location and current capabilities - it does mention the repaving of the runway at that base in the province of Santa Cruz.
Throughout the year, another major project will also be carried out in the region : the paving of the runway at Río Grande Airport in Tierra del Fuego, putting another of the main bases in southern Patagonia in good condition.
The Argentine Air Force, through the Peace Condor program , seeks to acquire the fighters in flight-ready condition, with the first units expected to arrive from Denmark at the end of the year.
For now, what is known is that the F-16s would not face operational restrictions from the United States regarding their use in the South Atlantic , according to the same official source.
Considering that the aircraft are of American origin, the question arose in the House of Representatives in this regard: "... whether the United States established any type of operational restriction on the F-16 Weapons System and/or its armament for operating, for example, over the South Atlantic."
The response from the Chief of Staff was that “ no operational restrictions have been established by the United States regarding the use of the F-16 weapons system, or its armament, including its operation in the South Atlantic .”
