“Admiral Irízar” will participate in two Open Days held by the Navy in Ushuaia

Within the framework of having concluded the Antarctic Summer Campaign (CAV) 2023/2024 , the ARA icebreaker “Almirante Irízar” will participate in the Open Day of the Argentine Navy Ushuaia , capital of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and South Atlantic Islands .

It will be this Friday , April 26 and Saturday, April 27, from 2:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. , at the Commercial Dock of the Port of Ushuaia , where the details of the CAV 2023/2024 will be announced.

During the event, which will have free admission , residents will be able to tour the icebreaker and have details about the tasks carried out by the crew and the importance of Antarctic activity for Argentine sovereignty in the South Atlantic. Then, starting at 5 p.m., the music band of the Austral Naval Area will perform military marches and popular songs.

On December 28, 2023, the vessel cast off at the Buenos Aires Naval Station . The Sea King helicopters of the Second Naval Air Squadron joined in days later.

In March , after completing the second stage of the 2023/24 Summer Antarctic Campaign, the Irízar arrived again at the dock in the city of Ushuaia , resupply was carried out and the third and final leg of the schedule began.

In 48 days, the ship completed 6,450 nautical miles (13,334 km) of navigation under the responsibility of the Joint Antarctic Command.
