The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution demanding that Israel " end its illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory" and do so within 12 months at the latest.
“The text received 124 votes in favor, 14 against and 43 abstentions,” UN News reported.
Among the countries that voted in favour of the occupation of genocidal Zionism were Israel itself, the United States, Argentina , Fiji, Hungary, Palau, Papua New Guinea, Paraguay and Tonga. Abstaining were, among others, Germany, Canada, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Great Britain, Guatemala, Italy, the Dominican Republic, Panama and Uruguay.
The website LaPolíticaOnline reported that an experienced diplomatic source told them that Israel lost ground in the UN in a significant way and that explains the overwhelming votes in favor of the cessation of the Israeli occupation of Palestine , from countries that previously did not vote in that direction.
"Israel lost ground in the UN a while ago. Even France, England and Canada abstained. We are with the colonies and insignificant countries," he said. On this occasion, the Argentine representative, Ricardo Lagorio , was in charge of raising his hand to carry out a new and shameful act of foreign policy by the government of Javier Milei .
The non-legally binding Palestinian-prepared text “is based on an advisory opinion issued by the International Court of Justice in July, which stressed that Israel’s continued presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory is illegal and that Israel has an obligation to immediately cease any new settlement activity and to evacuate all settlers from the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” UN News reported.
The UN General Assembly also “demands that Israel comply without delay with all its legal obligations under international law, including those stipulated by the International Court of Justice,” inter alia:
(to) withdrawing all its military forces from the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including its airspace and sea space
(b) by ending its illegal policies and practices, including the immediate cessation of all new settlement activity, the evacuation of all settlers from the Occupied Palestinian Territory and the dismantling of the portions of the Israeli-built wall that are located in the Territory, and by repealing all legislation and measures that create or maintain the illegal situation.
It also calls on international organizations, including the United Nations, and regional organizations “not to recognize as legal the situation arising from Israel's illegal presence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory and to distinguish, in their relevant relations, between Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territory,” UN News noted.
It also calls upon States “not to recognize, cooperate or assist in any way measures undertaken by Israel to exploit the natural resources of the Occupied Palestinian Territory or to effect any change in the demographic composition or geographical character or institutional structure of the Territory.”
The international community “strongly deplores the continued total disregard and failure by the Government of Israel to comply with its obligations under the Charter of the United Nations, international law and relevant United Nations resolutions, and stresses that such failures seriously threaten regional and international peace and security.”
