The Malvinas Islands Veterans' Centre in La Plata, Cecim, yesterday denounced President Javier Milei and Foreign Minister Diana Mondino for alleged "abuse of authority" and "violation of duties of public officials" following the decision taken jointly with England in relation to flights to the Malvinas Islands.
The complaint was filed by federal judge María Servini in the federal courts of the Buenos Aires neighborhood of Retiro, judicial sources reported.
This presentation was added to another one made on Monday by a lawyer Valeria Carreras against Mondino for the same facts that is being processed in the court of magistrate Sebastián Ramos , in the same federal jurisdiction of Buenos Aires.
The complaints were filed following an announcement by the foreign minister, linked to an agreement with her English counterpart to resume the second weekly air connection to the Malvina Islands from Brazil with a monthly stopover in Argentine territory, and in matters of fisheries conservation.
In her complaint, attorney Carrreras questioned the fact that the National Congress has not been involved in an issue that could link Argentine sovereignty.
"Progress was made, once again, without giving the National Congress any input, thus violating Article 75 of the CN. Upon simple reading of the Communiqué of 24-9-2024, we can affirm that said communiqué is "prima facie" an instrument of a conventional nature, which establishes rights and obligations of an international nature," he warned.
For this reason, and "whatever the form of the instrument, it should have been passed through the National Congress for its treatment" based on a "constitutional mandate."
The agreement announced by the Foreign Ministry provides for the resumption of a regular flight from the city of Sao Paulo, Brazil, to the Islands with a stopover in Cordoba. It was signed in New York, United States, by Mondino and British Foreign Secretary David Lammy.
