17,000 ex-combatants are affiliated with PAMI, many of whom require treatment for pathologies arising from war.

The Malvinas veterans expressed their indignation at the confirmation of cuts in free medicines by PAMI ( Comprehensive Medical Care Program ), a situation they described as “ genocide .”

The controversy gained greater strength since December 2024 , when adjustments were implemented in the delivery of medicines for retirees and pensioners , also affecting former combatants of the Malvinas War .

It is worth noting that since the creation of the National Program for War Veterans , established in resolution 191/05 , former combatants have had access to the necessary medications to deal with the after-effects of the Malvinas War .

However, since the change of government and the decision of President Javier Milei to restrict the delivery of medicines , this coverage has been seriously compromised .

The new criteria used by the national government was limited to those retirees who earn less than 388,500 pesos , leaving many ex-combatants without vital medical support .

The ex-combatant centers , the CECIM of La Plata and the CEVECIM of Berisso , initiated legal action through an appeal for protection before the Federal Court of La Plata .

The Secretary of Human Rights of CECIM , Ernesto Alonso , pointed out that the adjustment implemented by the Government is considered a “ genocide ” towards retirees and ex-combatants . “ The ex-combatants were also affected by these resolutions that lowered the number of remedies in the vademecum organized by the social work. Supposedly we were not going to be affected but it did not happen. They are not lying to our faces ,” commented Alonso .

He stressed that around 17,000 ex-combatants are affiliated with PAMI , many of whom require treatment for pathologies arising from their experience in the war .

PAMI is the largest purchaser of medicines in the country. Before, it negotiated a price from a wholesale buyer's position. Today, it is paying list prices and this has to do with returns - Alonso explained -. These guys are making money from PAMI. The director of PAMI, Esteban Leguízamo, has a lot of experience on this issue, he answers to the pharmaceutical industry. PAMI is a big bank and unfortunately the Government aims to destroy the largest social work in our country that has given access to health to millions of Argentines ."
