The newspaper La Nación dealt with the heated debate generated between the former Chief of Staff of Alberto Fernández, Agustín Rossi , and the Minister of Defense Luis Petri on the social network X; after Agenda Malvinas documented the approach to four commercial aircraft of Aerolíneas Argentinas and Flybondi , of a military jet Airbus A400 Atlas , of the British Royal Air Force, stationed at the NATO Air Base, in the usurped Malvinas Islands.
Rossi grabbed hold of a thread from Guillermo Carmona, former Secretary of Malvinas, Antarctica and the South Atlantic , where he repeated the news and accuses Petri of having renounced maritime and air control of the Exclusive Economic Zone (ZEEA) of Argentina.
The Minister of Defense said that " no British aircraft flew over Argentine airspace," and disqualified the former Kirchnerist official for having voted in favor of the memorandum of understanding between the Argentine government and the government of Iran in February 2013.
La Nación reports that on Saturday night, Rossi began by repeating the long thread that Carmona had created and then accused President Javier Milei and Petri himself of giving in to the United Kingdom.
In his post, among other things, Carmona reproached the minister for having forgotten his responsibilities and failed to comply with the powers imposed on him by the National Defense Law by allowing this maneuver. “The preservation of Argentine interests on the continental shelf, beyond the 200-mile mark, is a task assigned to the Ministry of Defense and Security, through the Armed Forces and the Argentine Naval Prefecture, involving both naval and air resources,” he stressed.
Impeccable thread by @grcarmonac on the manifest surrender of @JMilei and @luispetri to Great Britain. I recommend reading it until the end 👇🏼 https://t.co/1fJVJkALFt
“It is incomprehensible that the Minister of Defense should disregard such capabilities for the control of Argentine maritime space in a strategic area of the national territory that is also threatened by a specific foreign military presence,” Carmona continued. And he concluded with a mention of the Malvinas Islands: “ Neither [Luis] Petri nor the foreign minister [Gerardo] Werthein have shown any interest in demanding that the occupying power of Malvinas comply with such obligations.”
Following the complaints from Rossi and Carmona, La Nación says it has spoken to sources linked to the Ministry of Defense , who categorically denied that a British aircraft had overstepped its boundaries and violated Argentine airspace: “The accusation is against an Airbus A400M Atlas, which is generally used for operations in different sectors around the Malvinas Islands. Argentine airspace was not violated nor was any international norm that deserves special attention breached. The aircraft is based in the Malvinas Islands, flights are routine in the vicinity of the islands and the adjacent maritime zone and are monitored daily by the Argentine State.”
The Minister of Defense also took to social media to deny the incident: “Rossi, you are a liar, no British plane flew over Argentine airspace. In Javier Milei’s government we care for and defend the sovereignty of the true Argentines.” He then accused the former official of having voted in favor of the Memorandum as Iran did as a national deputy for the Front for Victory : “There is no more infamous act of surrender of sovereignty than the Pact with Iran, to guarantee impunity to the authors of the greatest attack suffered by Argentina and for which you voted as a Deputy. When you were Minister, you called Iranian terrorists from the Revolutionary Guard who entered and made an aerial tour of our country ‘flight instructors’.” At the end of the post, I attach a certificate of Rossi’s affirmative vote.

Rossi had the last word , and did not hesitate to ask for explanations and make jokes: “ Don’t get nervous, cosplayer minister, and instead of disqualifying, try to refute with arguments the excellent and adequate accusations that Guillermo Carmona makes against you and that I reaffirm: the British military plane entered the airspace of the Argentine EEZ. What if you try to demand explanations from Great Britain instead of getting angry with us? Or is it not allowed to bother the British?”
