The Kelpers suspended the start of squid fishing in the Malvinas for a week

They did so on scientific advice, after finding that there was enough squid, but not the size required for its commercialization. Likewise, the Spanish estimate that they will get about 50,000 tons.

The Spanish fishing vessels Falcon, Montelourido and Argos Pereira, anchored yesterday in the bay of Puerto Argentino.

The summer fishing campaign for squid in the Malvinas, under an illegal British licence, was extended from 23 February to 1 March . The measure affects some 130 fishing vessels from the Taiwanese, Spanish and South Korean fleets, which come to the South Atlantic twice a year to catch the Patagonian variety of this cephalopod.

The information was published by several Iberian media, reporting the request of the occupation government to delay the start of the loligo squid campaign by one week.

In any case, the prospects are good. This is confirmed by the supposedly scientifically-controlled exploration carried out by the Spanish fishing vessel “Golden Chicha”. The quantity of squid detected is sufficiently abundant to make it a good summer campaign. There are only a few days left before the squid reach the weight and size required for sale.

For this reason, "the 17 vessels of the mixed fleet (capital from Vigo and from Malvina/Malvinas) that operate exclusively in the waters of the islands will be dedicated to hake and also to squid, outside, although each company makes its decisions," details the Spanish media Atlantico.net .

"Outside" means beyond the maritime zone usurped by Great Britain, and next to the Asian and European fleet that brings together 380 ships on the edge of the Exclusive Economic Zone of the maritime jurisdiction of the Argentine Republic.

“The quantities in the usual areas where juveniles are recruited are abundant; we have been capturing 400 tons in the scientific campaign for four days,” acknowledged the owner of the “Golden Chicha” Javier Touza ; one of the main Galician partners that the Kelpers have in carrying out the multi-million dollar mass plunder of the Argentine migratory resource.

Knowing the trade, the businessman's expectations for the season are around 50,000 tons of squid. "We would like it to be bigger, but there might not be anything," he said.
