The measure was unanimously approved by the Tandil City Council and was carried out with an emotional ceremony attended by municipal authorities, war veterans, family members and neighbors.
As highlighted by the ABCHoy news portal, the event was attended by Mayor Miguel Lunghi , who spoke some heartfelt words to highlight the importance of the recognition to the members of the “Islas Malvinas Tandil” War Veterans Center and the Ala Delta Group , veterans of the Argentine Air Force .
"To say that this tribute is well-deserved is not enough. Because no word, no act, no recognition can match the greatness of having faced the cold, fear and adversity in the Malvinas. Much less can it match the supreme sacrifice of those who gave their lives for all of us ," said Lunghi.
"This is a place full of emotions: here we say goodbyes full of hope and hugs of reunion that break down distances. So was their feat: a departure towards the unknown, a heroic journey in defense of our land, and the permanent longing to return," said the mayor.
The president concluded his speech with a message for the new generations: "This name inspires us to be better, to be worthy of this struggle, and to transmit to the youngest the pride of belonging to a community that honors its past and looks toward a future full of hope."
The ABCHoy portal emphasized that the new name of the terminal not only seeks to recognize and remember those who fought in the Malvinas Islands, but also to keep the memory of that feat alive in an everyday space for all Tandil residents and also for those who visit the city.
