In a context marked by geopolitical tensions and the struggle for resources in the South Atlantic, Argentina is participating in a series of military training sessions with forces from the United States Southern Command.
Although the national government promotes them as an opportunity for exchange and training , the reality is that these exercises undermine the country's autonomy and allow a global power to define and coordinate military operations in the region.
President Javier Milei 's administration is part of this hegemonic strategy of Washington, despite the historic political-military alliance between the US government and Great Britain in the seizure of the Malvina Islands and the southernmost maritime and island territories.
Argentine special forces are currently training under the leadership of the U.S. military command . In practice, these programs reinforce the U.S. presence in the region under a logic of domination , based on its interest in natural resources, especially the rare earth elements in the north of the country , and its strategic control of the South Atlantic.
Participation in competitions such as the " Fuerzas Comando 2025 " to be held in El Salvador , far from representing a showcase for Argentine forces and an exercise in integration with actors from the region and the world, is a scenario of indoctrination in which subordination to US power prevails.
Colonel Néstor Gabriel Oprandi , Joint Commander of Special Operations , indicated: " We aim to fly the Argentine flag as high as possible, but, from the outset, we know that any result will be good because it is the beginning . By 2026 and 2027 we will have more experience. Soon a team will travel to El Salvador, where it will be hot and they do not know the infrastructure ."
Likewise, in search of deepening the relationship with the allies of British colonialism, he reported that "the military authorities asked SOCSOUTH to be hosts in 2027, which would give us a competitive advantage ," announcing another step in the US interference in national territory , practically unprecedented until the current La Libertad Avanza administration .
The presence of troops from the three Argentine Armed Forces in activities such as the " Atlantic Dagger " exercise, scheduled for February 2026, and in other events in Chile , reveals a process of alignment with the US military forces, which aims solely to consolidate the US position in the rivalry with powers such as China and Russia.
Oprandi acknowledged that the "link" (dependence-interest) with the U.S. is growing: " This is reflected in several initiatives. One is participation in the Panamax exercise. Another, perhaps the most important, is the combined special operations troop exercise 'Atlantic Dagger.'"
Argentina will also participate in the "Estrella Austral" exercise on June 10 in Chile , also organized by SOCSOUTH . " There are 24 invited countries, one of which was us. This time, we'll be going with a group of commandos, 13 men in total: eight from the Army, three from the Air Force, and two from the Navy. Four observers will also be traveling ," Oprandi explained.
