The British-flagged tanker VS PROMISE (IMO 9351438) has formally left the territorial waters of the Republic of Argentina. According to real-time satellite positioning (AIS) data reported by the VesselFinder and MarineTraffic platforms, the tanker crossed the mouth of the Río de la Plata and is currently sailing in the territorial waters of the Oriental Republic of Uruguay , off the coast of Montevideo and the maritime border of Maldonado and Rocha.

The ship, which sailed from the Ushuaia dock on August 24 after aborting its planned wait at the Río Cullen monobuoy, maintains a clear navigation regime towards the northern hemisphere:

With its entry into Uruguayan waters, the tanker chartered to transport the production of the consortium operated by TotalEnergies —along with PAE and the British company Harbour Energy— put a definitive distance from the Argentine coast, eliminating any possibility of precautionary measures or operational interventions on the cargo.

Its holds carry the 22,464,570 metric tons of Fuegian crude (around 165,000 barrels) pumped at the Cullen terminal between August 12 and 13, a maneuver that represented only a third of the tanker's total capacity (+500,000 barrels).

Unfinished business in Tierra del Fuego

While the VS PROMISE continues its international journey across the Atlantic, the institutional impact of its passage remains open in the province.

Official documentation revealed in recent weeks — from the billing sheets of the Provincial Directorate of Ports (DPP) to the manifests of the maritime agency Cruising Ushuaia SA — confirmed that the Fuegian State intervened, monitored and settled the fees of the operation in the north of the Island.

Now, the focus shifts to the request made by the State Prosecutor, Virgilio Martínez de Sucre , whose legal deadline of 15 days is running for Governor Gustavo Melella and the Secretariat of Hydrocarbons to present the inspection reports, the authorizations granted to TotalEnergies and the Certificates of Origin that endorsed the departure of the provincial crude on board the British-flagged vessel.
