In an act that confirms its historical alignment with the interests of the major powers, FIFA's Disciplinary Committee officially imposed harsh sanctions against the Argentine Football Association (AFA), its players, and members of the coaching staff. The underlying reason: having broken the censorship imposed at the 2026 World Cup and displaying a flag with the slogan "The Malvinas are Argentine" to the world after the victory against England .

The disciplinary ruling includes economic and institutional penalties for the federation and individual suspensions following the incidents and demonstrations during the final stages:

·         AFA fine: USD 321,000 for violations of articles 13.2.c ("manifestations of a nature other than sporting"), 14.5, 15 and 17 of the Disciplinary Code.

·         Public restriction: Play the next two home games with reduced capacity at 50% (with part of the sanction on probation).

·         Leandro Paredes: Ten-match suspension and a $90,000 USD fine.

·         Nahuel Molina: Seven-match suspension and a $90,000 USD fine.

·         Thiago Almada: One match suspension and a $30,000 USD fine.

·         Roberto Ayala: Three-match suspension and a $30,000 USD fine.
