Once again, the British colonial enclave is using the Mount Pleasant military base as a stage for displaying its weapons. According to information published by the MercoPress website, next Sunday, March 22 , the British Forces South Atlantic Islands (BFSAI) will hold an "Open Day," allowing settlers and those who have been placed there to tour the facilities that sustain the illegal occupation of our sovereign territory.
The marketing of militarization: An arsenal in sight
The event, scheduled between 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, is nothing more than a marketing exercise to normalize the presence of a NATO stronghold on the Argentine continental shelf. On this occasion, the technical and personnel deployment seeks to impress with the United Kingdom's power projection capabilities.
A foundation that ignores International Law
While London attempts to disguise the event with food stalls and a festive atmosphere, the geopolitical reality is inescapable. This deployment occurs in open contravention of United Nations General Assembly Resolution 41/11 , which declares the South Atlantic a Zone of Peace and Cooperation , urging states to reduce their military presence in the region.
Furthermore, this display of weapons ignores the first transitional provision of the Argentine National Constitution and current legislation that prohibits logistical support to forces that usurp national territory.
These "events" are intended to normalize the existence of a military stronghold in the Southern Hemisphere in the eyes of the international community. This is not about "open doors," but rather the brazen display of the means by which the United Kingdom usurps our sovereignty, oversees the plundering of our natural resources, and creates a point of extreme danger for regional stability.
