New evidence reveals decisive US support for Britain in the Malvinas War

They document Washington's logistical and military support to London, including AIM-9L Sidewinder missiles, anti-ship mines, communications, and satellite intelligence. Chile and Panama are supplying fuel to the fleet.

The AIM-9L Sidewinder missile, the most advanced air-to-air system of the time, supplied by the US to Great Britain.

The recent declassification of secret files from the British Ministry of Defence provides new and compelling evidence of the fundamental role played by the United States in the war materiel used by the United Kingdom during the Malvinas War of 1982.

The documents, analyzed by specialist Sir Humphrey and marked with the highest level of secrecy, "SECRET UK EYES A," detail a series of urgent requests for military equipment, strategic intelligence, and logistical support that London channeled to Washington while its fleet sailed toward the South Atlantic . This collaboration, far more extensive than officially acknowledged, paints a picture of operational complicity that was decisive for the British military campaign .

The list of "priority requirements" for Operation Corporate included: real-time satellite intelligence, photographic reconnaissance, signal interception (SIGINT) on the movements of Argentine forces, and encrypted communications systems.

And the assistance wasn't limited to information . Among the more specific requests was the provision of 20 modern limpet mines for the Special Boat Service (SBS), since their own, according to a report dated April 28, 1982, signed by Major PJ Henderson , were "obsolete and had imprecise detonation times." In addition, a request was made to equip the CASTLE-class patrol boats with 76mm guns to maintain control following a potential occupation.

The arsenal requested and provided included missiles Sidewinder AIM-9L, the most advanced air-to-air system of the time, anti-ship mines and critical support in refueling and satellite communications (FLTSATCOM and Gapfiller).

The texts are eloquent in pointing out that Washington was already providing "considerable support" in intelligence even before the formal start of operations.

The files clearly allude to a regional support network, explicitly mentioning the use of facilities in Chile and the supply of fuel from Panama and Chile to British ships, confirming historically sensitive hypotheses.

These revelations stand in stark contrast to the current foreign policy of the Argentine government. While President Javier Milei deepens his unconditional alignment with Washington, history demonstrates, time and again, that the United States was, is, and will be the main strategic and military ally of the European power that illegitimately occupies a portion of the national territory.

The irony is profound: the nation that today presents itself as a privileged partner was a fundamental pillar in Argentina's defeat in 1982 .

Part of this past remains hidden, since, invoking the "protection of international relations" , three of the fourteen British war plans discussed on April 29, 1982 will remain classified until 2057 , a silence that speaks as much as the documents now revealed.
