David Cámeron was in the Malvinas Islands on February 19, without the Foreign Ministry commenting on it.

Until very recently, some issues, even a few, managed to escape the “crack” that divides the national political arc; among them, the question of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands. However, this Wednesday an unexpected gesture broke with that apparent inter-party unity when all the blocks of Deputies signed a joint resolution repudiating the visit of British Chancellor David Cameron to the territory – except La Libertad Avanza, which abstained from supporting the patriot project. .

The initiative, discussed yesterday afternoon in the Foreign Relations and Worship commission of the Lower House, had the objective of rejecting the presence and statements of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Kingdom in the Malvinas Islands, considered as "successive provocations and acts unilateral actions carried out by the British government in recent months.” In particular, the motion pointed to the official's recent trip to the disputed territory within the framework of the English election campaign.

However, at the time of signing the opinion, the party led by President Javier Milei decided to abstain from giving its support . He was the only one who did not sign the proposal: all the others, from the opponents of the national administration to the dialogue opposition and even the other spaces that make up the official coalition, supported the document discussed in the commission whose two highest authorities are Fernando Iglesias ( PRO) and Santiago Cafiero (Union for the Homeland).

Meanwhile, during the discussion of the text, the legislators placed special emphasis on the need to respect the “unrestricted compliance with the Resolutions of the General Assembly and the United Nations Decolonization Committee that have been issued regarding the Malvinas Question” and the “ inalienable right of the Argentine Republic over the Malvinas, South Georgia and South Sandwich Islands and the surrounding maritime spaces”, supported by extensive international provisions.

Furthermore, the commission highlighted Argentina's “firm willingness” “to resume sovereignty negotiations as soon as possible to provide a definitive solution to this colonial situation.” And he added: “The Malvinas Cause constitutes a permanent and unwavering objective of the entire Argentine people. The recovery of said territory and the full exercise of sovereignty, respecting the way of life of its inhabitants and in accordance with the principles of international law, constitute a permanent and inalienable objective of the Argentine people.
