This vessel is owned by the Natural Environment Research Council, operated by the British Antarctic Survey for logistical support and research purposes, and will carry out several missions during the current Antarctic summer.

It is initially expected to transfer equipment, food, cargo and fuel to the British Antarctic Survey's five research stations, and also deploy robotic instruments as part of an international oceanography programme.
