The Tierra del Fuego representative successfully brought together the militarization of British colonialism and NATO in the Malvina Islands.

Alejandro Deanes , a member of Parlasur representing the Argentine province of Tierra del Fuego and a representative of Unión por la Patria , managed to get the organization to issue a statement rejecting British military exercises in the South Atlantic.

It is the first time in the history of Parlasur that a representative in Tierra del Fuego , gets the parliamentarians of Mercosur, comprised of Argentina, Brazil, Paraguay and Uruguay, to speak formally on these aspects around the Malvinas issue.

This comes in the context of a special session in Montevideo on June 10, the Day of Argentine Sovereign Rights over the Malvinas Islands, the Archipelagos, and Antarctica.

Last Tuesday, at the 72nd ordinary session of the Mercosur Parliament, Alejandro Deanes presented a Draft Declaration of Repudiation of the carrying out of military exercises in the South Atlantic, taking into account that Anglo-Saxon colonialism continues. ignoring Argentine sovereignty and United Nations General Assembly Resolution No. 41/11 of October 27, 1986.

The initiative, which was unanimously approved, stated that " the Mercosur Parliament expresses its strong rejection of the conduct of military exercises in disputed jurisdictional waters of the South Atlantic, inconsistent with the principles of peace and cooperation established in UN resolutions and the international community ."

Since the creation of Parlasur in 2006 , the approval of this declaration marks an unprecedented milestone : it is the first time that a representative of Tierra del Fuego with direct links to the Malvinas Question has managed to get the institution to speak out against the military maneuvers of British colonialism in the South Atlantic , a highly symbolic scenario to strengthen the Argentine and regional position in the defense of sovereignty.

The project was drafted in a context where international institutions, such as the UN, reiterate the need to resume negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom to resolve the sovereignty of the Malvinas Islands, which has remained unresolved since 1833.

Yet, while this is happening, Britain maintains an active military presence on the islands, constantly conducting war exercises —often with the participation of NATO member states, such as the US , and at times of international tension—in clear violation of international resolutions.
