In a Mercopress article yesterday, based on information published by Penguin News , the newspaper of the established colony, recent information was released about the long-awaited British project to establish a new port in the Malvina Islands, replacing the current one built after the 1982 war.
The spokesperson for the information was legislator Mark Pollard, a member of the illegitimate Kelper parliament , who announced some decisions regarding the future port during a public meeting held on May 5.
In response to a question from one of the members of the public at the meeting, Pollard stated that the Executive Council of the Islands government will soon receive a complete proposal, including all costs, which will enable a decision on the award of the contract for this important infrastructure project.
And although the information does not say so, Pollard could be referring to the negotiations opened in August 2024 with Keynvor MorLift Ltd (KLM), a UK-based company specializing in marine services and operations with extensive experience in civil engineering projects, was the contract the Kelpers turned to after a previously unsuccessful process with Harland and Wolff of Belfast.
According to Pollard, the report that the Executive Council will receive will include the three key aspects of the project: the access road to the construction site and the final roadway to the new port once the project is completed; the construction of the barges needed for the foundations; and the dismantling of the current structure, FIPASS (Malvina Interim Port and Storage System) . This is a set of modules that have been in place since 1983, several of which are so deteriorated that they cannot be fully utilized.
"The document has been discussed, and we will be ready to make an accurate estimate of the work, in a timely manner, for the project for the new port," the parliamentarian added. He explained that they do not currently have a definitive quote from the company developing the project , but that the issue would be addressed in the document the Executive Council will receive.
“When we reveal the final cost, it means we will be well advanced in the execution of the project ,” he said.
From the usurping colony's perspective, the new port is vital to its economy in logistical terms, given that if completed, it will expand a variety of activities, including fishing, hydrocarbon exploitation, tourism, scientific research, defense, and Antarctic development . To this end, it has secured external financing from the Rothschild bank, in the order of US$194 million.
Finally, Pollard said that the idea is for the new port to be similar to the current FIPASS structure, in that it will be built using large barges, which will be about 400 meters long to moor ships and will be wider than the current one, to allow for better movement of vehicles working on loading and unloading .
