In an event steeped in historical and emotional significance, the city of Río Grande became the stage for an unprecedented act of reaffirmation of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvina Islands.

Mayor Martín Pérez formalized the delivery of the first driver's licenses with an established address in Puerto Argentino, Malvina Islands, to two veterans of the 1982 war, Raúl and Rodolfo Antúnez.

The ceremony, described by authorities as a fundamental step in the city's consolidation as a "City of Sovereignty," was attended by the Secretaries of Government, Gastón Díaz, and Citizen Management, Gonzalo Ferro.

At the presentation ceremony, Pérez emphasized the concrete and symbolic value of the veterans' gesture in establishing a domicile on the islands. "We are proud. We welcome them, we embrace them, and we value this important gesture, which is nothing more and nothing less than educating our neighbors about the defense of our sovereignty," he stated. The mayor expressed his hope that this action will be the first of many, reinforcing the symbolic role of Río Grande in the national cause.

For his part, veteran Rodolfo Antúnez expressed the overwhelming emotional burden of carrying a document with that address. “Obtaining this card, which bears the name of Puerto Argentino and the 632 soldiers who remained there, guarding our land,” he declared, emphasizing that it is an honor and a direct tribute to those who made the supreme sacrifice. He also expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome from the local authorities, leaving an indelible memory of the city.

The Secretary of Citizen Management, Gonzalo Ferro, emphasized the historic nature of the measure. "We are proud that, from Río Grande, the City of Sovereignty, the Municipality is issuing driver's licenses for the first time to Malvinas veterans residing in the Islands," he said, defining the action as a firm act of reaffirmation of Argentine rights through the peaceful and legitimate means of diplomacy and remembrance.
