“Inequality won, due to the refusal of the current mayor of San Antonio to fix the road,” said its director.

Messages received this month by ex-combatants from the Mesopotamian region, which were ratified by a recent publication of the Diario de Misiones FIRST EDITION , after demanding for four years from the municipality of San Antonio the repair of the road that leads to the VGM Héctor Fernández Ecological Reserve , its director, Matías Fernández , announced its definitive closure as of this Saturday, May 20.

It is the only reserve in the country in memory of the veterans of the Malvinas War, located in the General Manuel Belgrano department, in the missionary north, created by decree of the Government of that province and ratified by current agreements with the Ministry of Ecology of Misiones and the Ministry of Environment of the Nation.

The Ecological Natural Reserve was promoted by veteran Héctor Oscar Fernández , who was a member of the 5th Marine Infantry Battalion (BIM) , who died last December 15, precisely when he was carrying out procedures to activate the repair of the road.

Matías Fernández , son of Héctor Oscar and director of the Reserve, said that “inequality won, due to the refusal of the current mayor of San Antonio to fix the road.” Also indicating that, for four years, they sustained the investment, maintaining the staff, salaries, insurance, part of the administrative expenses to manage the Reserve; having requested as the only action of the municipality “ the repair of the access road”, which also benefits residents of the sector.

With regret, the son of the deceased war hero said that during these four years they never found a response from the municipality led by Fausto Rojas ; although it was from Governor Oscar Herrera Ahuad , who sent machinery to begin the improvement of the road, which “the mayor never completed.” A fact that, with the passage of time, it deteriorated to the point of becoming impassable again.

There are 45 hectares of native forest, dedicated to preservation and scientific research. It is the first at the national level and also the first reserve in honor of a combat war event worldwide. Its objective is to create the first research center within a private reserve, and generate training and education for young people and sources of work for the municipality.
