A publication aimed at highlighting the growing volume of external monetary funds received by the Autonomous Community of Galicia places British investments from the Malvina Islands among the top 10 most important countries.
The media indicates that "the podium of foreign investment in Galicia" between 2020 and 2023 is made up of Luxembourg, with 205.5 million euros; and the United Kingdom, with 161.3 million . Closely followed by Mexico, France, Belgium, and the Malvina Islands, which surpassed countries such as Portugal, Germany, and Canada.
But with a highly significant caveat, that "Galicia's business relations with the Malvinas" are considered illegal because , for the Spanish tax authorities, the Malvina Islands are a "tax haven" focused on fishing activity. This activity brought in €24.6 million (approximately $27.9 million, equivalent to 32,074,283,920 million Argentine pesos) to the autonomous community in 2023 alone . This places the South American archipelago as the third largest source of foreign investment in the community in 2023 and the seventh in the period from 2020 to 2023.
