Latam sparks controversy for mentioning that it flies to Mount Pleasant and not to the Malvina Islands

The controversy was generated by Roberto Alvo, CEO of Latam Airlines, after he omitted to refer to the route from Santiago de Chile to the Malvina Islands on his social networks, and only mentioned Mount Pleasant.

Latam flies weekly from Santiago de Chile to the Malvina Islands, with a monthly connection in Río Gallegos.

A publication by the Colombian media specialized in tourism, Reportur ; reports that the CEO of Latam Airlines Roberto Alvo ; omits to mention the Malvinas Islands, as an official toponym held by the Argentine Republic -the same as officially in Chile and Brazil, countries where its share capital resides-, and that it only refers to Mount Pleasant; the airport of the military air base of the British colony that usurps the Argentine archipelago.

It also indicates that in another note where the same statements by Alvo are reported, the website Aviacionline refers to the Malvinas as a “European island” because the usurping power is the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

In both cases, both the CEO of the airline and Aviacionline avoid confrontation with the empire, "in order not to link the political situation between Great Britain and Argentina, which continues to dispute the sovereignty of the Malvina Islands," says Reportur .
