The Organization of American States assembly on Friday reaffirmed its support for Argentina's sovereignty claim over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia Islands, the South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas . The OAS's support was unanimous and by acclamation . It urged the United Kingdom to resume negotiations in the dispute between the two countries over sovereignty over the South Atlantic Islands .
Regarding the decision, Ramdin asserted that "we must not forget the fundamental principles of territorial integrity. Argentina's sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands, South Georgia Islands, the South Sandwich Islands, and the surrounding maritime areas must be recognized based on respect for international law, the declarations and resolutions of the multilateral system, and the integrity of this entire process."
In this regard, he highlighted the approved declaration and explained that it is "consistent" with Argentina's "long-standing position on this issue."

According to the details, the declaration and acclamation reaffirm the "call to resume bilateral negotiations between Argentina and the United Kingdom."
Finally, Foreign Minister Gerardo Werthein stated that "June was an important month for our country regarding the Malvinas Question." On the other hand, the United Nations Special Committee on Decolonization approved a new resolution on the Question of the Malvinas Islands on June 18, renewing its historic call for Argentina and the United Kingdom to resume bilateral negotiations as soon as possible with the aim of reaching a peaceful and definitive solution to the sovereignty dispute.
The resolution was adopted by consensus and enjoyed the support of all the Latin American countries that make up the Committee. According to the Argentine Foreign Ministry, this decision "once again reflects the international community's strong support for Argentina's position."
"A large number of countries from various regions expressed their support for the resumption of negotiations and for Argentina's sovereign rights, reaffirming the special and particular colonial nature of the Malvinas Question, in accordance with the provisions of resolutions 2065 (XX) and related resolutions of the United Nations General Assembly," an official statement said.
