The dissolution of COVIARA, the company created in 1966 to build housing for Argentine Armed Forces and Security Forces personnel , came after Defense Minister Patricia Bullrich announced a few days ago that 329 homes under the Procrear plan would be relocated to the uniformed sector.
That is, the specific tool created for access to service housing for members of the Armed Forces, the National Gendarmerie, the Naval Prefecture, and the former National Aeronautical Police was eliminated.
At the same time this special fund was repealed, the Ministry of Economy transferred the first Procrear units to the Ministry of Security, which will be transferred to members of the federal forces.
“The Ministry of Economy gave us housing from the Procrear plan, and we donated it to those who protect us every day: our armed forces. We delivered 160 houses in Avellaneda. They go directly to them, without intermediaries, without political friends ,” Bullrich had said in the announcement.
He also argued that the aforementioned national program “ was often misguided because the Ministry of Economy found housing, in some parts of the country, that was not used for single families but was instead rented out on Airbnb, so continuing with this system was a really bad idea .”
The special fund created by Law 21,134 included items from the National Budget, donations, legacies, and proceeds from financial operations, administered by the Ministry of Defense . Its purpose was to acquire, build, equip, and maintain housing, as well as potential civic centers.
In the text of the regulation that eliminates the special fund for housing construction, the national government states that the measure was taken "within the framework of a policy of streamlining structures and optimizing public spending."
Tierra del Fuego is expected to be included among the provinces where some of the remaining 169 Procrear homes will be repurposed , in addition to towns such as Ezeiza, Morón, San Martín, San Miguel, San Nicolás, Córdoba, Santa Fe, Entre Ríos, CABA, and other districts in the province of Buenos Aires.
