This development also coincides with the advancement of the Sea Lion hydrocarbon project, a circumstance that has added another dimension to the debate. On July 21, Agenda Malvinas reported that Easter Island Naviera was negotiating its integration into the logistics network related to the future oil exploitation ; a day later, MercoPress confirmed the negotiations to establish the monthly Punta Arenas-Malvinas service, although it presented the initiative as a broader trade corridor. Therefore, it is necessary to distinguish between different levels of information: the existence of the monthly maritime route project is confirmed; its specific use as part of the Sea Lion logistics was reported by Argentine media, but it is not established as the corridor's exclusive purpose in the available institutional information .

The meeting on September 28 and 29 should therefore be viewed as more than just a business roundtable. A stable maritime connection generates frequencies, suppliers, contracts, port services, and business interests that can be consolidated in the long term. In the case of the Malvina Islands, these movements occur over a territory whose sovereignty remains disputed between Argentina and the United Kingdom, and within a South Atlantic where the exploitation of natural resources and logistical infrastructure have a clear strategic dimension. The 2025 precedent also shows that the project enjoys local political interest in Punta Arenas: the FIDC itself reported that Radonich expressed his willingness to support the reestablishment of the connection and that the discussions addressed how local authorities could contribute to its development. If the project is ultimately realized, Punta Arenas could once again become a direct maritime supply hub for the islands , deepening a regional economic integration that, due to its material and geopolitical consequences, warrants close monitoring from Argentina.
