At the beginning of the year, the Air Force completed an important achievement in strengthening the presence of the Argentine Republic in the White Continent. As reported, the Saab 340 T-34 of the IX Air Brigade of Comodoro Rivadavia , landed for the first time at the Marambio Joint Antarctic Base , opening the possibility that a new weapons system could operate in these territories.

On Friday 6th, these efforts achieved a new achievement, when another Saab 340, T-33, completed an operational mission for the first time, transporting a group of Argentine scientists to Antarctica.

According to FAA reports, the operation began on December 3 when a group of scientists traveled from El Palomar to Río Gallegos aboard a Fokker F28 aircraft of the Argentine Air Force.

And the next day, December 4th, the scientists were transported using the aforementioned Saab 340, which made a previous stop in Ushuaia, before crossing to the Presidente Frei Antarctic base.

Having arrived in Antarctica, the group of Argentine scientists continued their journey to the Carlini Base , in order to carry out “fundamental scientific studies for the knowledge and preservation of Antarctic ecosystems.”

The Argentine Air Force has highlighted on its social media that: “This type of deployment not only underlines the importance of cooperation between scientific and military institutions, but also reaffirms the role of the Argentine Air Force as an actor committed to the exploration and preservation of the white continent.”
