Legislator Pablo Villegas once again officially presented to the Tierra del Fuego legislature the presentation of a project that had been proposed last year, but which did not have a quorum for its treatment. It is to create a Special Investigative Commission focused on the installation of the British radar company Leolabs in Tolhuin.
Its purpose is to analyze, control and monitor the administrative actions that led to the installation of the radar, located at the “El Relincho” ranch , in the town of Tolhuin. In addition, it will be responsible for evaluating the political and technical responsibilities of the officials involved in the process.
According to the proposal, the members appointed to carry out the investigation will have broad powers to gather all the evidence they deem necessary . At the end of its work, the Special Investigative Commission will present a final report to the House , detailing its conclusions on the possible responsibilities of the officials involved.
Villegas ' project requests a thorough review of the authorizations granted to Leolabs Inc. and Leolabs Argentina SR L. for the installation of the radar and its corresponding ground station in the jurisdiction of Tierra del Fuego . It also proposes to investigate the interaction with the national government authorities in relation to these authorizations.
In addition, the possibility of summoning and questioning officials and employees of the Executive Branch of Tierra del Fuego is contemplated, as well as summoning witnesses and carrying out the relevant interrogations. The proposal includes the appointment of specialized experts who can contribute their knowledge to the process.
In this context, if approval is obtained, the collaboration of the Provincial Judicial Branch, the Court of Auditors, the State Prosecutor's Office, the Executive Branch and other public bodies is requested to obtain certified copies of files, reports, administrative acts, opinions and any other document relevant to the investigation.
