The start of the acquisition process for UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters was not only good news for the Argentine Army, as it would allow it to begin the process of modernizing and increasing the capabilities of its Air Force, but the potential arrival of the aircraft could open the door to the creation of an Aviation unit to support Special Operations.
It is worth remembering that the first steps towards the purchase of the UH-60 Black Hawk helicopters were taken with Tender 84/7-0942-LPU24 , a process that began on December 2. Through this initiative, authorized in September of this year, the Army Aviation Directorate seeks to incorporate three second-hand Black Hawk helicopters. This tender will open on January 13 of next year to review the proposals.
Among some of the requirements requested in the Technical Specifications, the Army detailed that the three Black Hawks will be used for air assault, external load transport, aeromedical evacuation, search and rescue, fire fighting, and civil protection. It was also mentioned that the helicopters, which will receive the registrations AE-531, AE-532 and AE-533, must have equipment for rappelling and fast rope, a cargo hook, machine gun mounts, and provision of internal and external auxiliary tanks.
