The organizations questioned the diplomat Mariana Edith Plaza, in office since May of last year, for her controversial positions regarding the claims of sovereignty historically formulated by our country in international forums.

The day before the Senate's approval, the diplomat had presented her credentials to King Charles III.

The controversy following the approval of the nomination of the Argentine ambassador to the United Kingdom, Mariana Edith Plaza , approved last Thursday in the Senate, has raised a barrage of criticism from organizations that bring together veterans of the Malvinas war. The rejection of her appointment is categorical, and several agree in denouncing that Plaza “intends to leave aside the claim of Argentina's sovereign rights over the Malvinas Islands” , as they stated to La Nación.

The appointment of Carlos Ortiz de Zárate was also discussed, proposed to assist her in the diplomatic mission, who is also Plaza 's current partner.

Her promotion to the rank of ambassador was approved last Thursday, with 34 votes in favor and 27 against . An important fact that was recorded was that at the time of voting, 11 senators were absent , of which 9 belong to the Frente de Todos and Unión por la Patria blocs while the other 2 absent senators are from Juntos para el Cambio .

Below we publish the complete list of senators who, with their absences, contributed to Mariana Edith Plaza and her partner, Carlos Ortiz de Zárate , being appointed to head the Argentine embassy in London:

     Andrada, Guillermo Eduardo (Front of All-Catamarca);

     Doñate, Claudio Martín (Front of All-Rio Negro);

     García Larraburu, Silvina Marcela (Front of All-Rio Negro);

     Giménez, Nora del Valle (Front of All-Salta);

     Linares, Carlos Alberto (Front of All-Chubut);

     Lopez, Maria Florencia (Union for the Homeland-La Rioja);

     Mayans, José Miguel Ángel (Union for the Homeland-Formosa);

     Mendoza, Sandra Mariela (Front of All-Tucumán);

     Terenzi, Edith Elizabeth (Together for Change-Chubut);

     Uñac, Sergio Mauricio (Union for the Homeland-San Juan);

     Zimmermann, Víctor (Together for Change-Chaco).

Plaza had been serving as head of the embassy in London since May of last year, during the Diana Mondino administration. And according to what was reported by La Nación, the current foreign minister, Gerardo Werthein , renewed the willingness of the Argentine government to “resume bilateral negotiations that allow finding a peaceful solution to this sovereignty dispute and putting an end to the colonial situation in the Question of the Malvinas Islands” , adjusting to the resolutions of the UN General Assembly, which would mark a substantial difference with Ambassador Plaza 's strategy ratified by the Senate.

The Confederation of Malvinas Combatants of the Argentine Republic and the Federation of War Veterans of the Province of Buenos Aires , among other organizations, protested against the approval of the document, which officially grants the controversial pro-British official the rank of ambassador.

According to La Nación, "both entities expressed their concern about the 'rush' in dealing with the ambassador's request in London, to whom they attribute the proposal to 'renounce all claims and rights that Argentina has over the Malvinas Islands'."

The president of the Confederation of Malvinas Combatants, Ramón Robles , stated that Ambassador Mariana Plaza advised former Foreign Minister Mondino “to set aside the claim of our sovereign rights over our Malvinas Islands and cooperate with the usurper, using other methods already tested by other governments and leaving our country in a shameful situation.”

“Sovereignty over our islands is not negotiable, it is defended, it is claimed, always standing, never on our knees, as our heroes did in Malvinas, giving up the most precious thing that a human being has: his life. Therefore, it is a duty and a right of the Argentine people, as part of the Malvinas feat and in honour of the blood shed, to condemn any act that puts the country in danger ,” said the Confederation of Malvinas Combatants in a statement.

As we reported from Agenda Malvinas, Carlos III received the Argentine Ambassador, Mariana Plaza , last Wednesday, who presented her credentials and had a conversation of approximately 20 minutes with the English monarch in a ceremony held at Buckingham Palace. The act formalized her accreditation as ambassador in London.

How sure was she that her appointment would be successful if she presented her credentials before being appointed by the Senate!
